Bear with me...
mark (noun)
1. mark is a sign, symbol, indication or a stain.
So basically a mark is something
visible to the eyes.
----------------------------------
In the Old Testament, the literal "mark of God" was circumcision.
circumcise (verb):
1. to cut off or amputate
This told people that the child belonged to God; and at that time, circumcision was the law. There was no way around it. However, through Christ's birth, things changed. God did not abolish the old law, and rather sent his Son to supersede the law!
Altogether, He created a new "mark".
So then what is the mark of God?
BAPTISM
As Christians, we commit ourselves to God by being baptized. This is an establishment of our faith in God and our promise, to walk with him, talk to him, listen to him & keep our eyes on him.
Being baptized is act of our faith that tells God we are committed to him, but this act alone can not save us.
So then what does that mean for us as Christians under the new law?
God calls us to circumcise our hearts.
"No a real [Jew] is anyone who heart is right with God. For God is not looking for those who cut their bodies in actual circumcision, but he is looking for those with changed hearts and minds..."
~ Romans 2:29
We must circumcise our hearts, so that our soul is right with God. We must do this continually!
Baptism and Circumcision of your heart - this is the Mark of God!
-------------------------------------------
This is my reflection based on the Father Stavros' perspective written in "Let All Creation Rejoice" devotional book.
